Objective in the development is to improve the braking performance compared to the original brake disc. EBC used HPSR steel with a low carbon content, having a higher coefficient of friction by 18%. This steel is much more resistant to rust than cast steel. In addition, the entire surface with a 3-micron thick zinc layer is protected, the already abrades itself when decelerating in the brake pad contact zone. Only in this area more easily rust can form on prolonged service life.

The brake discs are drilled in the wings of a bird design to make do with as little as possible holes with optimum cleaning of the brake disc of rainwater and brake dust. The fewer holes are placed, the better the wet braking performance and the lower the wear.
