Goal of the development is the improvement in braking performance compared to the original brake disc. EBC used HPSR steel with a low carbon content, having a higher coefficient of friction by 18%. This steel is much more resistant to rust than cast steel. In addition, the entire surface with a 3 micron thick zinc layer is protected, which have to abrade in the region of the braking pad contact zone. Only in this area, sometimes rust can form during long periods of standing.

The brake discs are drilled in the wings of a bird design as possible to get by with as little holes while optimizing cleaning the brake disc of rain water and brake dust. The fewer holes are drilled, the more the wet braking performance and the lower the abrasion.
